Joan Brown, 94 of Pompton Lakes, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Lynnferd Brown. She will be missed by her children; Donald Brown, the late Steven Brown (Patricia), Craig Brown (Roreyann) and Jo Ann Brown as well as her 9 grandchildren Stephanie Brex (Bill), Timothy Brown (Sheetal), Daniel Brown (Shannon), Tyler Brown (Alyssa), Kelliann Brown (James), Russell Stoll (Gina), Justin Stoll (Liliann), Caiden Brown and Cian Brown and her eleven great grandchildren.
Joan was always active, never sitting down, whether she was out for a walk, swimming, coaching, riding waves on her raft, playing bingo or in Atlantic City playing the slot machines. Joan was the corner stone of the family, instilling in all family members the importance of staying active, being competitive, giving back to the community and just being a social butterfly.
Athletics and sports were something she loved. Joan an avid swimmer; would regularly swim at her local YMCA, competing in various races as well as giving back to the community by coaching swimmers of all ages and skill levels for over 40 years. Joan was even named the Volunteer of the Year at the Wilmington YMCA in the early 1990s. When she wasn’t in a pool, she was always at some sporting event, watching her children or grandchildren. Thanks to her grandchildren, she found a love for soccer. In her later years, she even would make it to her great-grandchildren’s sporting events, providing her wisdom and advice to all those who sat with her.
Joan also loved the beach, whether she was jumping waves or riding on her raft, she truly was happy to be by the ocean. Joan loved doing activities with her friends and would be sure to make their weekly dinners at Applebee’s.
Joan will be remembered for her love of ice cream, generosity, hard work, competitive spirit, her amazing advice, and her deep love for her family and friends. She made everyone she met feel like family and would never hesitate to help anyone in need.
Oscar Wilde once said “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” Joan led her life in kindness and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
