Lee Clark, a longtime Bergen County educator, basketball coach, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born on March 13, 1933, Lee dedicated much of his life to education and athletics. He was a longtime teacher and basketball coach at Leonia High School, where his legacy is honored by Lee Clark Court, named in recognition of his years of dedication to the school and its athletes. Throughout his coaching career, Lee also coached at Don Bosco, Dumont, and Clifton High Schools, influencing generations of young people both on and off the court.
Lee proudly served his country as a first Lieutenant in the United States Army and continued his service for many years in the Army Reserves.
After living in Bogota, New Jersey, Lee and his wife, Valerie, relocated to Manahawkin, New Jersey in 2003.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Valerie Clark; his son, Christopher Clark, and daughter-in-law, Patty; his cherished granddaughters, Shay, and Camryn; and his sister, Agnes Ghilain. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan MacDonald Kellenberger.
Lee will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and the lasting mark he left as a teacher and coach. His name may remain on a basketball court, but his true legacy lives on in the family, students, athletes, and friends whose lives were better because they knew him.
