Mary E. Marquez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and community leader, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on May 25, 1940. Mary married William A. Marquez in 1963. Though they later divorced, they shared three children—Deneen, Anthony, and Neil—whom both parents loved dearly. Mary devoted her professional life to education, beginning her career as a paraprofessional, then advancing to educator, vice principal, and ultimately principal. She proudly served the Bronx, New York Board of Education, where her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to student success left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues before her retirement. Mary strongly believed in the power of education and encouraged her students to pursue meaningful careers and lead fulfilling, successful lives. Mary is survived by her children Deneen Martinez, Anthony Marquez, and Neil Marquez; her daughters-in-law Marilyn Marquez (married to Neil) and Melody Marquez (married to Anthony); her cherished grandchildren Michael, Justin, Michelle, Jaden, Janelle, and Anthony Jr.; and her beloved great-grandchildren Alexandria, Ethan, Zachery, and Christian. She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter Monique Marquez, who remained forever in her heart. Also surviving Mary is Sloane, her former daughter-in-law, who continued to be a meaningful and loved part of the family and for whom Mary held great fondness. Mary will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, dedication to education, and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, both personally and professionally. Rest in Peace Queen Mary.
