Celebrating the Life of Mary McDermott
Bogota, New Jersey — Mary McDermott, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on July 12th, 2026 at the age of 94.
Born on February 28th, 1932 in Longford, Ireland to Bridget McNally and Michael Mollaghan, Mary carried the warmth, wit, and resilience of her homeland with her when she made her journey across the Atlantic to the United States at just 17 years old. While living and working in New York, she met her husband Thomas McDermott; together they moved to Bogota, New Jersey and built a beautiful life together.
Mary’s love for her family was fierce and unconditional, defined by an unwavering dedication to their happiness and success. Her home always had open doors, sweet treats, and an embracing comfort that made everyone feel like family, but alongside that enormous heart was a feisty spirit. Mary was a woman of unwavering conviction and a brilliant spark that never dimmed, even at 94. She spoke her mind and possessed a delightful stubbornness that kept everyone on their toes. It was this perfect blend of fierce independence and tender devotion that made her unforgettable.
Mary is survived by her devoted children, Michael and James McDermott, their wives, and her cherished grandchildren who will forever miss her hugs. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas and her siblings Kathleen, Francis, and Michael Mollaghan.
Join us for a celebration of her extraordinary 94 years.
