Patrick Joseph Greally, 81, of Bogota, NJ peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 19th surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Greally (née Gilman), and his daughters, Pauline and Tracy.
Patrick (or Paddy as he was known to his family and friends) was born May 5, 1942, to the late Patrick Greally and Bridget Greally (née Kavanagh). He was raised in Drynan, Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland, the third of 8 siblings. Paddy worked in Bord na Móna before immigrating to New York City in 1963, where he met his beautiful Irish bride, Mary. Mary and Paddy were married in St. John’s Church in the Bronx, NY in 1967. They resided in the Bronx until moving to Bogota in 1974.
Paddy worked for American International Group in New York City for over 30 years as a Chief Operating Engineer. He loved working in lower Manhattan and befriended everyone he met from executives to the man who sold coffee on the corner.
When Paddy retired you could find him tending to his beloved garden and enjoying every sunny day. He loved to sit and chat and reminisce about his childhood growing up in Ireland. He had so many stories to tell, especially about his grandparents, James and Theresa Kavanagh. He loved his family so much, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren.
Paddy will lovingly be remembered for his work ethic, his great sense of humor, his kindness, his love of dancing, music, Ireland, history, family, and the New York Rangers. He was a true Irish gentleman.
Paddy was predeceased by his dear siblings, Jimmy and Liam.
Paddy is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Pauline and her husband Michael, Tracy and her husband Michael, granddaughters Amber, Madison and Clodagh, his grandson Quinn, his loving siblings Maureen, Annie, Frank, Mickey and Tess and beloved brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
