Steven J. Brown, 65 of Bogota, peacefully passed away on November 3, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia Brown, nee Bultman, and their five children Stephanie Brex (Bill), Timothy Brown (Sheetal), Daniel Brown (Shannon), Tyler Brown (Alyssa) and Kelliann Brown (James) and his eight grandchildren Michael, Haley, Abigail, Lyla, Mallory, Brian, Dax and Brooklyn.

He was born on November 29, 1959 to Joan Brown and the late Lynnferd Brown. He is also survived by his brothers, sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was a lifelong resident of Bogota – a graduate of Bogota High School, the place he met his wife, Patti. Here is where Steve and Patti set their roots to raise their children. Steve was an active member of the community as he ran the Bogota Recreation Basketball League for over 10 years as well as actively helped with the SOS Velocity Volleyball Club program up until the very end. He also played an instrumental part in bringing back the Bogota High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Athletics and sports were his passion and something he cherished doing with his children. You could always find Steve at a volleyball game, football game, basketball game, baseball or softball game or at a cross county or track meet. If you couldn’t find him at any of these events, then you may find him running all over Bergen County training for his next marathon. Steve ran in 10 marathons and 11 half marathons. Always an avid runner, Steve didn’t start running marathons and half marathons until after the age of 50. Steve even completed the Gettysburg half marathon in April 2025, his favorite place to race.

When Steve finally took a moment to sit, you could find him and wife at the beach in Wildwood, “their happy place”.

Steve will be remembered for his generosity, hard work, excellent listening skills, his amazing advice, and his deep love for his family. He never hesitated from helping others, especially his neighbors. There are so many people that he had an impact on, from family, to coworkers, friends; to those he took the bus into New York City with every day for 42 years.

Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Steve gave everything and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wounded Warrior Project.
