Frances McCarthy Obituary

Frances Mary McCarthy, 70, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, December 13th, 2020.  Fran was born on March 25th, 1950 in Bogota, New Jersey.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Shirley McCarthy and brothers Paul McCarthy Jr. and Gregory McCarthy.  Fran is survived by her sisters Peggy (Peter) Lawton, Kathleen (Barry) O’Daniels and her brothers Charlie (Sue) McCarthy, John (Jody) McCarthy and Michael McCarthy; nieces and nephews Cindy, Michael (Doris), Dana, Brett, Mark (Marleni), Tara (André), Tiffany (Ian), Amber (Dave), Patrick, Matthew, Allison, Billy (Diana), Shannon; and great nieces and nephews, Michael Jr., Andrew, Sean, Daniel (Magen), Heather, Kimberlin (James), Sam, Scott, Brett Anthony, Madison, Zoe, Olivia, Juliana, Paloma, Jack, Grace, Cheyenne (Jens), Samantha, Carson, Jonathan, Charley, and Brady.  She is also survived by her close cousins Larry Barrasso and Judith Mercurio and dear friend Bernadette O’Keefe.
Fran worked at The Valley Hospital for 46 years before retiring.  She had a gift with a camera and all who know her will be forever grateful for her pictures of family events and her insistence on a “real” smile.  Fran was selfless, caring, thoughtful and had a deep sense of faith that carried her through until the end.  She was a tireless supporter of the American Diabetes Association and raised thousands of dollars through her fundraisers.
Her family meant the world to her and she kept them in the forefront of her mind with everything that she did.  She traveled to Massachusetts often to see and care for family there as well as trips to Maryland and Pennsylvania to see her nieces and nephews.  She attended many sporting events to support her many nieces and nephews and was their biggest cheerleader.  Fran had a heart of gold and made you feel that you were the most important person in the world when she was with you.  She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation will be Monday December 21st from 4pm - 8pm at Petrik’s Funeral Home in Bogota, New Jersey.  The funeral service will be on Tuesday December 22nd at 10am at St. Joseph’s RC Church in Bogota, New Jersey.   Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org/ada/
