James J. (Jimmy) Higgins of Bogota passed peacefully on January 26, 2019 surrounded by his family. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland on May 30, 1938, he emigrated to the United States in 1956 where he met the love of his life Mary Higgins (nee Cullen) and whom he married in October, 1962. Jimmy lived in the Bronx and moved to Bogota in 1972. Before retiring he was a sales manager for Drakes Bakeries. The things that brought him the most joy were Family, Faith, Friendship, Irish Tradition and Culture. Everyone knew of his lifetime passion for the bagpipes. He was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's RC Church, Bogota; Founder of the Bergen Irish Pipe Band, Dumont NJ; member of the Bergen Irish Association, among other Irish Cultural organizations. Survived by his loving wife Mary Higgins. Cherished father to Mary Henehan (Billy), Colette Quinn (Sean), Joan Caputo (Brian), and son James Higgins. Beloved grandfather to Christina Henehan, Maura Quinn, James Quinn, Brian Quinn, Kathleen Quinn, Catriona Caputo, Owen Caputo, Tara Caputo, Megan Caputo, Colin Higgins, Lainey Higgins.Treasured brother of Phyllis McIntyre. He will be fondly missed by brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both here and in Ireland. Visitation Tuesday 1-4pm & 7-9:30pm at Petrik Funeral Home, 140 Palisade Avenue, Bogota. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 10:30am at St. Joseph's RC Church, Bogota.
