Nicholas Zampetti Obituary

Nicholas C. Zampetti, Nicholas “Nick” M. Zampetti, Jr. (77) of Bogota peacefully left this world on April 15, 2020.  Nicholas was born in Jersey City to Nicholas M. Zampetti, Sr. and Mariangela “Mary” (nee DiGeronimo) Zampetti. He grew up in North Bergen and attended St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City, where he earned a varsity letter in track.  Nicholas went on to attend Rutgers University and then Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1964. He would later earn his M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson and serve there as an adjunct professor.

After college, Nick worked at some of his favorite jobs -- as a freight brakeman for Pennsylvania Railroad and freight conductor for Penn Railroad and then for his favorite beer company, The F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Co. He also served in the United States Army Reserves. Thereafter, Nick worked as a marketing executive in New York City for many years before opening his own marketing agency, Nicholas Marketing Associates.

Nick’s “hobbies” included real estate investment and house flipping, which he began when only in his 20s with his partner-in-crime and dear friend, George Shalhoub.  Nick was also devoted to his beloved St. Joseph Church of Bogota, where he served as a lector and gave tirelessly of his time, and his adopted home-town of Bogota, where he resided for almost five decades. Nick was an active member of local politics and served many years on the Planning Board, Zoning Board, and Town Council.

For as much success as Nick achieved in his career, nothing made him more proud than his family. Nicholas met the love of life, Mariann (nee Kohler), at their favorite spot, the Jersey shore. After marrying in 1971, they began raising their family in Bogota and welcomed their children, Cristina, Nicole, and Michael. Soon thereafter they created a second home for their family at the Jersey shore in the town of Belmar and started their extended family. Along with their dear friends, Donald and Ellen Conry, and the rest of the Conry family, Nick and Mariann created their loving “beach compound,” where both families still continue to vacation and spend family time together.

Nick was a devoted son, and visited and called his mother daily, especially after the passing of his father and then his dear sister, Camille Zampetti Silvestri.  His mother predeceased him only by days, as they could not wait to be together again. Nick and his parents and sister are now together with their heavenly Lord, to whom they were all faithful servants. He is survived by his loving wife Mariann and children, Cristina Sinclair, and her husband Brian; Nicole Barone, and her husband Christopher; and Nicholas “Michael” and his fiancee Jennifer Lowell. He was the proudest grandfather of Matthew, Emily, and Caitlin Sinclair; Christopher, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Olivia Barone; and Nicholas Zampetti.

Private funeral services for the family are being arranged by Petrik Funeral home, with a funeral Mass and celebration of the lives of Nick and his mother to be scheduled in the future when the circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Nick’s memory to St. Joseph Church, 115 Fort Lee Road, Bogota, or the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or by mail to Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 23 Vreeland Road, Suite 105, Florham Park, NJ 07932.
